BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -

One person is dead and another person is injured after a boating accident on Berlin Lake.

Police and paramedics were called out shortly after midnight Saturday to Berlin Lake in Berlin Township for reports of a boating accident.

Matt Eiselstein, a spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said that a fishing boat with two people was hit by a power boat.

The two fishermen were both injured and transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

The Portage County Coroner's office says that Neil Cuppett, 58, of Akron was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the official cause of death.

Initially investigators believed the driver of the power boat fled from the scene of the accident. Eiselstein clarified that the accident was called in to the Portage County Sheriff's office by a relative of the power boat's driver.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation, with assistance from the Portage County Sheriff and the Portage County Coroner.
