President Ronald Reagan, during a trip to Berlin in June 1987, famously stood in front of the wall's Brandenburg Gate and told Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev: "Tear down this wall!"

After 28 years, 2 months and 26 days, it happened. On Nov. 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall was opened, no longer separating East and West Germans. ABC News reported from the scene in Germany.
