Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Stefan Pichler, born in Munich in 1957, has held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the airberlin group with responsibility for all of the companies in the group since February 2015. Stefan Pichler holds a degree in Economics and completed a post-graduate programme in Insead, France. The passionate marathon runner started his professional career as the Head of Sport Promotions with NIKE International in Beaverton, Oregon. Stefan Pichler has also held various managerial positions with Lufthansa, most recently as Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Executive Board with responsibility for worldwide sales & marketing activities. Between 2000 and 2003, Stefan Pichler was Chairman of the Executive Board of Thomas Cook AG. Following this, he took over the position of Chief Commercial Officer & Deputy CEO with Virgin Blue Airlines while simultaneously founding V Australia, where he worked as Chairman of the Supervisory Board until 2009. In 2009, Pichler took over the position of Managing Director & Chief Executive of Jazeera Airways, where his successful restructuring programme helped the airline to 13 high-profit quarters in a row. Stefan Pichler worked most recently for Fiji Airways, where he implemented a turnaround programme to lead the airline formerly known as Air Pacific back into the black.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Arnd Schwierholz was born on 28 January 1970 in Krefeld, Germany. After studying economics in Trier and Manchester, he launched his career at the UBS Investment Bank in 1995. His aviation career took off in 2002 at the Deutsche Lufthansa AG, where he became Head of Department of Merger & Acquisitions and was responsible for the acquisitions of Austrian Airlines, SN Brussels and Jet Blue, to name but a few professional highlights. Last but not least, he was also responsible for all procurement- and IT-related issues of the Lufthansa Catering subsidiary LSG Sky Chefs in North America as Chief Financial Officer of the company. In October 2014, he transferred to the airberlin group, initially as Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Schwierholz took on the role of Chief Financial Officer of Air Berlin PLC with effect on 1 April 2015.
